Soldiers to get more killing power...
« on: January 25, 2011, 04:07:31 pm »
Interesting the NZ Army moving to mostly 7.62 rounds..

The country's soldiers are about to get more killing power with a new weapon which will better the range and accuracy of the rifles used by the enemies they are likely to be fighting.

A 7.62mm marksman's rifle will be issued to each section of eight to 10 soldiers after the New Zealand Defence Force completed a study of 10 of its weapons systems, mostly small arms issued to soldiers.

It's only one 7.62 weapon per squad... The whole SAM/SDM thing...

Americans and Brits have been doing it for ages... one member of the squad having greater standoff capability - just like one will have a SAW of some kind.

Good news though imo. long range engagements are typical of Afghanistan... although probably not so much for any of our "pacific insurgency" type conflicts...
