If you're looking into comms, a good radio is the best start.
Our club members run mainly two options of radio, the Puxing 777 or 888
We have standard setup including two settings:
TOT: 60 Seconds
This will cut transmitting after 60 seconds, helpful if mic is stuck on.
ROGER: ON
Makes a noise after end transmission to let others know you've finished talking.

Both options use the Kenwood pin for accessories like push to talk and headset eg:
