My lovely wife got me this book for my birthday, its a really good read...
The book is centred around second platoon who are based in the Korangal Valley, Afghanistan.
It describes in detail the real combat situation against the Taliban and how the soldiers work at the spearhead of the campaign.
Early in the book, the platoon pushes forward to defend and outpost they name after a medic who was KIA, PFC Juan Restrepo.
One of the things described in the book is how the Taliban aren't random nutcases made out in the media.
They are very adaptive, persistent and fearless enemy who seem to find countermeasures to the high technology of the USMC.
It ties in with the documentry film Restrepo.
