AAR: Carnival of CQB - Sat 9 Jan 16
« on: January 09, 2016, 10:14:16 pm »
Great turnout for the Carnival today! It was great to see everyone excited to be there, just like any Carnival!!!
Beautiful hot sunny weather, tho rather windy, but this negated any fogging issues :o)
12 attendees including Theros from Taupo, who played for the first few games :o)
Wasp was DS for day, and Torak did the usual great job with the Admin.
As well as everyone playing exciting, fast paced Close Quarter Battle (CQB) style games, this was a good opportunity for those Clubbies going to the 2016 Nationals in Nelson, to both play as a team and to start grasping all the various Tactics, Admin and Logistic issues that will need to be prepared for.
Game 1 was 'Rush'. One team in defensive positions with only one life each versus the other team as attackers with unlimited lives but had to respawn. With a 10 min limit.
The Attackers basically probed the defenders, then as the defenders were weakened with a few casualties, the Attackers pushed the weak point/side and won. We played 2 Rounds of 2 games. With the AHB team just winning.
'AHB' consisting of Stag, Wasp, Torak, Punisher, Jet and Theros. 'Multi' team consisting of Jimbo, Ghost, Jake, 879, TMarshall and friend. Some great games played.

Game 2 was 'Deathmatch' or 'Last Man Standing'.
Pretty straight forward destroy the other team game. 1 life each. 2 games played with both teams ending up with the same score of 150 points each, by destroying the other team once each. Patience in this game was a virtue and working as a team. Communications were important in relaying info quickly. Jimbos 'Multis' team played well, with Ghost proving a good shooter, Jake was tenacious in defence, 879 pushing forward often and Tmarshall and +1 also working well in centre field.
Game 3 was 'Territory'.
This game allowed full auto. Unlimited lives via a respawn point. 10 mins to play. 13 flags were spread around the field and the 'Multis' had to lay them down facing one side, and 'AHB' had to put them up. Key to this game was getting as much ground as possible and holding it, finding all the flags on your side whilst trying to secure, safely, a few more flags than the other side. Notably, Torak pushed a flank at the start and secured a building overlooking the Multis front line which made life difficult for them. AHB won with 6 flags up but missed two in their own side, with the Multis securing 4 flags down and missing one flag in their side.

Was definitely useful for planning for nats, and was much fun on the day too!

We should use some of these games as warm ups at open days.
