AAR: Tangimoana 23 to 25 Oct 15 - Part Three
« on: November 01, 2015, 10:01:04 am »
Day Three continued:
The day was a bit cool to start, but ended up being another awesome day like Saturday. Nice and warm without being overly hot.
Whilst Day Three had an initially slow start. In fact some of the Boys lack of sleep and Hangovers, muddled their Brains a bit, as there were a few mumurings about leaving early, etc.
Hell No!!! We had come a long way and wanted to get in a few good games before going home :o)
So, we had pretty much packed up camp, and by 11.00am, surprisingly, the Rub boys were ready to roll,
Wasp was not quite ready, as was packing his Stinger Wagon, but made the last minute rush and boarded the Jeep in time to head out to the field.
Frog and Amey decided to have a few more zzzz's due to their long nite :o), so 6 keen (or not so keen....drink plenty of water boys and rehydrate :o)) AHB Members headed off to do battle.
The AHB squad was once again reinforced with RuB unpatched members. And we headed off to the first Scenario. Attack the Hill!!!
The Ridge was heavily wooded, and from some angles very hard to pick out from the 9 thru 12 to 3 angles. However, the 3 thru 6 to 9 angles, were more open with Pines more spread out and less dense foliage. The Fortification was more long and narrow, so a harder area to cover depending upon where the enemy attacked from.
This time AHB was defending this vicious little ridge. Game on and RuB moved quickly to our 6, and the hardest part of the Ridge to defend.
AHB defended well at first, causing massive casualties to the Attackers, but finally losing Stag, Punisher and Buelly. THe RuB boys then charged in through this now big gap in our defensive line and by doing this easily took out the remaining players who were defending other arcs.
Everyone then moved thru to the Black base, which was a little hike away.
After we got there, we discussed tactics of how to attack this base, and EVT suggested the 'Conga line of Doom'. Basically we formed up in a single line and on Go! charged towards the base. This gave the few defenders facing the attack little time to fire, and whilst we anticipated heavy casualties to the first few guys, the others would either charge thru into the base or otherwise split left and right, spreading out and attacking quickly.
Which is exactly what happened, and it went so quick the other Defenders not facing the charging line were also taken out before they realised what was going on.
Next game was moving back to Datsun Base, but with a couple of contacts on the way, at a couple of Pine Needle and branch Fortifications that we had attacked the previous day. Great stuff of course. We were getting pretty good now at the procedure for attacking.

One of the RuB Core unpatched members was due his Club Initiation, so this was explained to us. Basically, he could shoot as many attackers as possible and they had to fall back once hit and keep a count of their hits, then could come in again.
The runner just keep running, shooting until he could not do so anymore and gave in. The Game On started, and being a fit young guy, took off like a Gazelle, but with approx 20 pers after him, he was soon flanked, and although I plodded up, he eventually came through Wasps arc of fire and he got a couple of bursts into him. He was soon cornered and finally taken down with a tackle and 3 others also piled on top of him.
After his nerves calmed, he was so adrenalin pumped. The Tally was taken and he had shot 22 players in his defence.
Meccano awarded him a Club Patch between two rows of RuB Core members, amidst great cheering, etc.
The last game was for AHB to defend Datsun Base (so named due to a squashed up, rusty old wreck of a Datsun car being in the base).
We were given unlimited lives, whilst the Attackers had to pull back once hit with 2 body or one head shot rule, then respawn.
As we were heavily outnumbered, and knew we were not going to survive, we decided to rename the Base:
'The Alamo'.
We decided upon some Offensive Defence, and Stag and myself moved out of the base to hit them as they approached to prolong the Defence.
Jaybee was down to a Pistol and about 5 or 6 mags, so he had to hold in the base and shoot the Attackers as they came in close (he had kindly given his AEG to Stag as Stags gun had gone down earlier).
Punisher was having gun issues, Wild Card defended one side, and Buelly was ready to defend with scar and all...
Game On..Rub charged down the approach route to the Base and Stag and Wasp stopped them in their tracks with their Barrage of Fire,
The AHB members in the Base poured fire into RuB's flank and anyone trying to sneak in through dense vegetation on one side.
At a critical moment Jaybees gun went down so Stag, fixed his pretend Bayonet and charged the Attackers. That caught them by surprise, but they poured heavy fire into him as he attacked, Wasp was providing as much cover fire as possible. After blunting their attack (bayonetted at least 12 RuB attackers),
Stag eventually had to withdraw after been tackled by Meccano, and the Attackers started pushing round the left flank.
Wasp was still in his position but had to move around from 12 to his 9 to cover this threat (wishing he had started another 20 metres further out dammit!).
EVen though hitting many of the attackers, the numbers were too great.
Wasp decided to charge the Attackers to try and close with them and try and recover the flank, but as the terrain on this side was quite open, got nailed heavily before he could close in with the Attackers, so had to pull back to
 'The Alamo'.
Wasp was yelling 'Hold the Line' and AHB remained strong and held their ground (well done guys), and also
'come on you 'Ruddy Bastards' come and get some...'
Meanwhile AHB were defending hard, but as more and more Rub Attackers surrounded the base, the fire into it made movement very difficult, without getting hit 20 times each time one tried to move.
Wild Card tried a Berzerker attack and got nailed, brave man!
Punishers gun had finally gone down so was trying to be a Meat Shield to other defenders.
Jaybee was shooting lots of Attackers as they tried to close in for the kill, with his Pistol until he ran out of ammo.
Even tho Wasp was in The Alamo, he was still covering his original arc of fire, tho it was more 9 to 6 now, rather than 12 to 9. With many Attackers coming from this direction, fortunately had heaps of beebs and a good working gun.
Buelly nailing lots of Attackers from his arc. Finally the pressure was too great, with fire coming in from almost all arcs, making it hard to shoot back, the Attackers started closing in and nailed the few survivors at close range.
After a great defence, the game came to an end.
This was an awesome and fun experience. Fighting overwhelming odds as a team and supporting each other for as long as possible. Just like the last battle in Saving Private Ryan :o)

THe AHB members who attended this will remember it as a high point. The RuB Core were great players and the Sportsmanship was awesome.

As time was against us, this was the last game of the day and we commenced the long, tho now slightly quicker drive back to Base Camp.
Finished the last dismantling of the AHB HQ, loaded the Jeep back onto the trailer, took group photos, said our goodbyes to our RuB Core mates, and sadly,  hit the road towards home. Good roads home, with not much traffic.
A quick stop at McD's in Dannevirke for an early tea or late lunch and off again.
Frog and Amey dropped off Jaybee at Buellys in Waipuk.
Wasp dropped Stag and Wild Card and the Jeep and trailer off in Otane, went back to Waipuk to retrieve Jaybee from Buellys, and dropped Jaybee off at home in
Napier, headed home to Hastings, finally arriving home at 9.00pm. Mission Complete!

Farewell until next year Tangimoana :o)

Awesome AARs Wasp,  great read and detail.
Yep that was wicked holding the line, it was full on especially only armed with pistol and when I ran out of ammo I moved about to draw fire whilst throwing pine cones at the rub lads, epic weekend.

The stuff legends are made of! Great work Wasp.
