AHB trip to play RUB at Tangimoana 23 to 25 Oct 15 - Part Two

Stag had bought a box lot of 500ml specially fortified Iced Milk drinks with him, and progressively fed them out to
RuB Core members during the nite,
with Jock Rubcore sculling his in one downing, the others seemed happier to drink them (what the mixture of milk and beer would do to ones stomach???) ,
with many of the recipients being very dubious about drinking them and were certain they were laced with something, but this was a great joke then
and over the rest of the weekend :o ),

Day Two (24 Oct) dawned with the Rain gone, and the wind down to a gentle breeze, a little chilly to start with but warmed up
comfortably. Ended up being a beautiful sunny day.
Got up and on with the Reveresed Partisan uniforms, got our gear ready for the days outing, and down to the Cookhouse
(aka Frogs Caravan or the AHB HQ) to cook Brekkie (mmmm Bacon...mmmm everyone loves bacon, plus the odd egg, hashie, etc
whatever else was on the Barbie) to fortify ourselves for the day ahead. Plus the odd surviving iced milk drink :o )

Meccano explained the basics of the day to Wasp, and there was a short delay whilst RUB went out to finish off a few of their bunkers.

The Jeep was readied and loaded up, and once the RUB guys returned, off we went. We were camped on the front yard of a Dairy farm,
so had to drive down the race to get to the field a couple of km's away. Of course after the rain the race was very wet and the muck was very deep
in parts, the track was simply not walkable unless one had gumboots, even then it was pretty dubious walking, and
there was quite a rich stench during the drive down, so it was great we had Frogs 'Russian' Jeep to get us down to the field.
As the four wheel drives were the only vehicles that could get thru the mire..
We unloaded the gear and made our way over the electric fence, over the Stream and into the forest and finally to the 'Rest' area.
Frog drove the Jeep in a long circuitous route (to get thru a gate) and then drive to our base, and parked it approx 40 metres away.
Final preparations were made, with 18 RuB Core versus 8 AHB, battle brief given and the AHB squad of 8 pers were guided to the first base.
This Base was made up from White corflute plastic sheeting and a green fishing type net above it. Plus a couple of trenches outside.
Wasp was designated Commander by Unanamous vote (dammit!!!).

In the base, we had a steel ammo box, which carried our extra Beebs and other game stuff, plus a Green Respawn flag was also attached to the side of the box.

Also the page of game rules, basically RuB Rulz:
-two body hits or one head hit to kill and respawn
-DBAD rules aply
-No bang kills
-gun hits and ricochets are NOT counted
-full contact allowed
-knife kills including thrown knife kills count
-all grenade kills count when within close proximity to grenade (3m)
-NO minimum engagement distance (DBAD)
-face protection is highly recommended

Each player can only carry 1 x Hi Cap mag, but as many pistol mags, Lo Cap mags, shot shells and grenades as they like.
(we had to hand in our Hi Caps and put them in named bags to get them later in the game)

Your respawn rules are:
-unlimited respawns
-you must respawn within 1m of one of your flags but only if that flag is within a 'base'
-respawning takes 30 secs

Along with the brief - and AHB's mission:
AHB your mission is to work your way through the forest, find and kill that SOB Double Brown Pants and his War Band of Ruddy Bastards!

A colour map was on hand (aka 'short range' radar style) showing our base, a few key features and our next 'objective of interest',
approx 100 metres away.

A defensive line was positioned, the forest appeared thick to us at this stage and we awaited the attack of the RUB hordes...
'Game on' was sounded, and plenty of shouting from RuB followed making us think we were going to be attacked by all of RUB, however,
after 5 minutes or so, only a few Tangos (enemy) were seen, after a short while they started to slowly withdraw, as we started to
push carefully forward on the Right flank.
Stag, Wild Card, Punisher and Jaybee maintained the push forward and started to shoot out the Tangos. We moved past the Jeep and
then the RuB Core Squad were suddenly all shot out by good shooting on our side. Amy and Frogs guns went down, so they went back to the 'Rest area'
to see what they could do, then we were 6   :o (
and then we found our first objective - a near invisible until close range 'fortification' made from deadfall branches and pine needles.
In it was the next 'short range' map. The next 'objective of interest' was again approx 100m away, this time to the West.
We reorganised and moved out in extended line towards the objective, shortly after we contacted the enemy again, and after a short hard fought battle once again
shot our way through to the next Fortification. A few of us went back to uplift our respawn flag and ammo box and went to the 3rd Fort and we
replenished with Beebs and with the next Map, moved off to the next objective. This time hitting some Blackberry covering a section in the middle.
THis slowed us down as we had to find a path through as well as try and push through both flanks, but finally after a few casualties, pushed through to
next Objective. This time it was atop a knoll and we found Meccano atop it behind a sign saying 'Contractors Wanted'.
Wasp had to negotiate a deal to do a job to obtain some Mags and Beebs...we had to attack the 'Datsun' Base and shoot up a RuB squad and an armoured Juggernaut.

3 of us moved off to scout the objective as the other 3 went back to previous base to replenish with Beebs, get ammo box and respawn flag.
A small hill covered our approach, as we checked out what lied ahead...and it was indeed the Datsun base. STag moved closer and then we were seen and firing broke out.
Wasp was hit and returned to respawn, meanwhile the others had caught up and entered the fray, and added their much welcome firepower.
We edged closer and closer and soon only 1 or 2 RuB were left and AHB pushed hard into the Datsun base to finish off anyone. This base was quite large and
expansive, mainly plastic corflute sheets as well as corrugated iron. Had a few trenches around the outside as well but with the high water table from the recent rain,
they were all filled with water...once again we rebeebed and moved off again, this time through some thicker forest, and against spread out opposition, but again we
probed, sorted out where the RuB were, took a few casualties, respawned and then started probing for weak points as we shot out the odd careless RuB player.
Again another Fortification made out of deadfall and pineneedles.
The next attack was up a hill. This Objective was quite hard and tricky, and initially the base was hard to pinpoint, and then suss out how big it was,
and we took high casualties doing so. Stag probed right around to the rear of the base, and
Radioed his position to Wasp. Wasp tried to organise a push, but with continuous casualties and not enough players, Stag was seen and then had to shoot fast
to try and weaken them before he was taken out so the rest of the team could try and exploit any weaknesses. Wild Card pushed up one ridge, and Wasp moved up
next to him and finally found the Fort, found the defenders not watching this flank, so got in and shot up a couple before getting blasted.
this was a great battle. Finally we shot out the Defenders.
Time for lunch.
