AHB trip to play RUB at Tangimoana 23 to 25 Oct 15 - Part One
After having RUB (Wellington) coming to play at various Block Wars, and getting to know them better at Nats 2015,
with their no nonsense, hard corps, some may even say unique, but fair style of play and great down to earth humour.

AHB were pleased to be invited to join RUB at their Annual Labour Weekend Games at their Forest Field.
8 members managed to attend this weekend - Amey, Buelly, Frog, Jaybee, Punisher, Stag, Wasp, and Wild Card.
With organisation quietly organised behind the scenes for weeks prior to the event, all ran smoothly for the trip down.
Frog had his newly acquired Jeep up and running and painted a great Russian Green colour complete with AHB logos.

Wasp picked up the Jeep on Trailer from Stags place and we all met up at New World Waipuk carpark. Frog towing his big green Caravan full of gear and necessary equipment - beer fridge, microwave, food, spare guns, etc...you get the picture...Buelly (wearing his club DCU Pants over his leather bike pants...awesome mate!!!) and Punisher loaded their gear into the Caravan and rode their 'Scout' Motor Bikes down. Jaybee helped crew the Frogmobile along with Amey and Stag, Wasp and Wild Card in Wasps Stinger Vehicle towing the Jeep. Everyone present and correct, so Convoy Rollllll!!!
From a hot Hawkes Bay and into a windy and cool Manawatu. Wasps vehicle struggling a bit with the load
(lucky we pumped the soggy trailer tyres up at Waipawa otherwise it would've been an even slower trip)
but after near overheating, started to regain its wheels and chugged along satisfaorily for the rest of the trip at 90 km/hrs.

2 minutes after starting the convoy was already stretched out over 50 kms with the Frog Mobile moving along at a blistering pace with the Scout Bikes struggling to keep up (ha ha !!!not!).
Comms wasn't too good and at one stage the Stinger Vehicle almost flew past a rest area where Frog and the Scouts were waiting.
But just managed to stop in time...a quick update and the Convoy headed off to the stop at Bulls to visit the Army Surplus Store...
the trailing Stinger vehicle missing the Fielding turn off, but Buelly raced after the errant vehicle and bought us back to join the Convoy.

This time the Convoy as a whole moved off to Bulls and found a park, and wondered off excitedly to see what treasures could be found in the Army Surplus Store.
We wondered in and found the shop to be unsurprisingly cram full of Army stuff...so cram full there wasn't much room to move, and once we got past the half way point and into the main shop found it was rather pitch dark in the main room full of camo uniforms. WE asked if he could turn on the light, and he said he was saving power and
turned on the one 40 watt lightbulb above us, that helped as we could now just walk around without bumping into each other.

O.K. we'll just wait 15 minutes and let our eyes adjust to the dark...lots of camo uniforms and boots for sale...a few of us found a few goodies to buy, and Wasp got a good deal on a
US Army camo Poncho Liner/jungle blanket (sweeeeet!).
After a search party led by Stag was sent in to extract Wasp so the Convoy could get on the road again, we did a brief toilet and alcohol stop around the corner, and headed off on the final leg of the trip to Tangimoana...
Toraks instructions were perfect and we arrived at the Farm and RUB encampment.
After meeting with Meccano and other RUB members, who were very pleased we had come, we sorted out our camping spots

(unfortunately, the site was such that we couldn't camp as a close group) we set up our tents/caravan.

Had a bite, or two, to eat, and a few Beers.

Unfortunately the wind got up a bit. And as the night went on a light rain settled in.

But we had a large Gazebo to socialise underneath, and caught up with the RUB members, and had more Beers.
RUB had set up a large target in the paddock, and got the old two man slingshot and were firing Potatoes, and other fun objects at the target,to great cheers when the target was hit with a bang.
Unfortunately one of the slingshotters didn't look where they were going and pulled one of the bands over
a fire and it melted and broke :o (
The several fires were going well, along with the occasional pyrotechnic type mini explosion, all good fun, we also had a few Beers...

Amey kept trying to stab Frog with a Rubber Knife (WTF??? Use Real Steel Amey...).
At some stage we all got to bed...Day One over...
