AAR: Ruawhenua Open Day Sun 28/06/15
« on: July 02, 2015, 12:16:03 am »
After a real southerly cold and wet week, Sunday started off cold, with a light frost, however as usual after a frost, the day was clear and sunny with little wind. So perfect for Airsoft.

21 keen players arrived to play, once again we have had good numbers turning up to play, well done guys.
We met up at Fernhill and once all were accounted for, convoyed out. Punishers Landrover's canopy had a few issues with ripping, so after a quick stop along the way the landy was stripped of canopy and readied for the days missions.
Punisher and his crew, Wrecker and Stitch, had to endure the rest of the trip in the now open, cold and breezy Landy, but it looked cool.

Due to some pre-production thinning Jimbo took us up to a new part off the Ruawhenua forest up a hill and just off the main road.
After the usual admin and sorting out of kit, our good Club Pres Jimbo was given the job of reading the updated Club Safety Brief that Torak had worked on. With Jimbos inimitable style of pretending he couldn't read, and after more than a few laughs, finally managed to get through the new rules (with a lot of help from Torak).

First game up was Domination, so 3 teams were set up. A Purple and Yellow team, and a neutral team.
The Neutral team of 6 set up on the hill in the middle of the field, and after initially slowing down the other 2 teams, were quickly shot up and most were captured by the Purple team. However Stag, also a neutral player had eluded the net by bleeding out before capture. He slinked back onto the field and after causing a few casualties was hunted down by several Purple players and after a hard fought skirmish was taken down. With extra numbers the Purple team put pressure on Jaybee's Yellow team and pushed them back down the hill and finally pinned them into their base, and although hard fought, finally had to surrender.

Next game was a mounted VC Trail, with the Mounted team consisting of Punishers Landrover, being protected by a couple of squads of troops under the able command of Jimbo.

Wrecker manned the machine Gun on the landrover, which provided Fire Support for the dismounted troops.

This playground was Forested and was reasonably clear and open, with undulating ground.
The Ambusher team (Defenders) consisted of 6 players and they went off to set up there positions along the Track.
First ambushes were weak with individuals shooting and getting taken out by the Mounted team. Once the defending team were hit they had to move back down the trail 30-50metres to the next position.

A fence line ran across the field with an open gate, as this is an obstruction it is called a 'defile', this was the first position that the defenders had where they could spread across in strength.

The Mounted team finally managed to push through by putting pressure on the defenders flanks, suffering heavy casualties in the process.

BJ was defending under cover when an attacking new player, stood right by him and saying to the others 'All Clear here' and pushed on. BJ was then just about to fire at close range on the Landrover, when another new attacker just happened to be passing BJ when he saw him and got BJ to surrender.
The Defenders had a ridge line where they again strung out in a defensive line to hold this natural defensive feature.
Stag was in position on one flank and caused horrific casualties, and went through 2 Hi cap mags in the process.
The rest of the Defenders also caused terrible casualties to the Mounted Team, but were finally flanked and destroyed.

The Defenders then moved down into a valley and whilst the Mounted team regrouped and called in reinforcements, the Defenders managed to find invisible positions covering a bend in the track in the sparsely covered valley. Shortly after the Mounted team got on the move again and moved down the road into the valley...the Ambush was sprung and to total surprise of the Mounted team. Again, heavy casualties were suffered, the Mounted team fought hard and again, started to work on the flanks of the Defenders. Jimbo got around the flank and tried to get Wasp who had issues with his primary, but drew his Secondary and took out Jimbo in a short, sharp gunfight.

Shortly after, this fight was over. A quick break and a new Defender squad was selected and went back up the track towards the start point. Several great smaller ambushes on the way back and VC Trail over...back to Admin area for lunch...

Last couple of games were Hamburger Hill back on the first hill. Attackers were in two squads and started down the hill and either pushed straight up or around the hill to attack the 6 Defenders up the top. The initial fire fights were fierce, but weakened as the Defenders were spread out and couldn't medic themselves. Slowly Defenders were shot out.
A change around and 2nd great battle.

All too soon day over.
As the next shipment of Club T-shirts and Hoodies had arrived, these were handed out to those in attendance who had bought them.
Many thanks to DS and Admin team of Jimbo and Torak.
And thanks to Punisher for his great Vehicle, made for a great VC Trail.
Look forward to seeing everyone at next game on Sat 11th July.
